My First 5K

This weekend I did something I never, ever, dreamed I’d actually be able to do - run an entire 5K. Now I realize that for some people running 3.1 miles (especially at the speed [or lack thereof] that I go) isn’t a big deal, but it was to me. I’ve never been one to be athletic in any sense of the word. Ten weeks ago I started the Couch to 5K program. I could barely run the 60 seconds at a time required during the first week. By the end of the official program I could jog for 30 minutes at a time. The next week I got up to 3.1 miles at a time and last Saturday I ran my first 5K race! I didn’t see the clock when I finished, but I think my time was around 40:45, if I calculated correctly. My goal was just to finish, so I was very happy with this time.

This is one of the few goals that was a goal I made for myself and pushed through to complete. Sure, I’ve completed a lot of other goals before, but those have often been goals that other people have had for me as well, like school. This is one of the hardest things I’ve done, both mentally and physically, and I thank God for helping me through it.

Me and Bridgette, my bff and running partner through C25K.

May I make a side note here about my running number? My favorite numbers are 3,7, and 21. I was stoked to see both 3 and 7 in my running number. I took it as a good sign for my first run.

It meant so much to me that the hubby came out to support me, especially considering we had to be there at 7 AM and it was so cold that morning. It meant so much to have him there and know he was waiting for me at the finish line.

Me heading to the finish line. I was so happy that it was over!

Bridgette and me after the race, although we joked that we felt like this…

Everyone says that eventually I will become addicted to running. I am absolutely not there yet. If anything, I am only addicted to being done with running. But I do love that I have been able to accomplish this and I hope to keep my running up, at least moderately. I don’t know what my running future holds, but I’m happy with where I’ve been!

And here’s what you’ve missed on Aforementioned Thoughts

Hubby and I recently went on vacation to celebrate our third anniversary. We had such a good time! Here are our pictures from our trip if you want to see all the shenanigans we got into.

Had a wonderful Easter, filled with family time. The weather was beautiful out and it was great to just relax and spend time catching up, especially since some of our family lives farther away now.

My Easter basket from my Mom this year was in a Longaberger pottery mix and pour bowl. Isn’t it cute!? I really love the Longaberger pottery collection and, lucky for me, my aunt is a consultant so my Mom will often get me pieces to add to my collection. Look at all the yummy goodies it’s filled with too! My grandma and uncles also added to the Easter candy stash this year! Yum!!

It was 12 Easters ago that I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior. It never ceases to amaze me the sacrifice that Jesus made by dying on the cross for our sins.  Becoming a Christian has been a wonderful thing in my life and I thank God for the change He has made in me.
