Sam’s Turtle blanket is finally done! It’s been five years in the making, from what I can tell. I know for sure that I started it before we were married. We both think it was 2006 when I started the blanket. I thought it was going to be done about a year ago, but the hubby is a tall guy and therefore the blanket needed to be a little taller too. About two months ago, I went to buy more of the lighter green yarn to make it one more row wider, only to find that the color wasn’t made anymore. I guess that’s what you get when you work on a project for five years without having all of the yarn you need already purchased. The blanket still turned out to cover the hubby though, even without the extra row. And boy is it heavy. Apparently making a nearly six foot long blanket entirely of cotton yarn makes for a hefty lift. The hubby assures me he likes it though and that it was worth the wait!

When the ballards write songs of this day, they will not remember the 3 trips to the hardware store, nor the many foul words shouted out in vain. They will only remember that on this day I had my greatest triumph over the toilet since potty training. Hooray!
— Hubby, texting me about his great plumbing skills!

A Sexy Grover Cleveland

  • Me: So... T and I are going to be the only ones in the office on Monday. T is asking the boss if we can wear jeans. Lol
  • Hubby: Lol. You two should dress up as presidents. You would make a sexy Grover Cleveland.

Hold Your String

  • Hubby: How're you feeling?
  • Me (upon returning to work after being gone sick and taking some medicine that had some unexpected side effects): I feel as high as a kite!!
  • Hubby: Oh no!! Be sure someone holds your string!

Warm Hands, Warmer Heart Men’s Mitts

The hubby is not a big fan of wearing gloves in everyday life because he doesn’t like the feeling of not being able to grip things. I made him these fingerless gloves (Men’s Fingerless Mitts) in hopes that it might help keep his hands a little warmer, while letting him grip things still. This felt like a very advanced knit for me, but was much easier than I expected it to be. I’m very happy with how they turned out, and thank goodness for the pattern writer, as they fit the hubby perfectly! He seemed to really like them.

Tis the season.. to finish Christmas crafts that were started long ago.

Blocking Sam’s stocking I knit this summer. I struggled through the whole thing and I’m not too thrilled with the way it came out so I think I tried to push it out of my mind once I bound off.
