NBA All Star Weekend
I didn’t always like watching the NBA - in fact, I’m not much for sports at all, besides watching professional wrestling (which is another story all together). The way I actually got into watching the NBA is kind of funny I suppose….
Sam and I were walking through the grocery store one day when I said that I needed a sports team to root for. He suggested some local college basketball teams, which were rejected because we live in an area where the locals all root for different teams - the Indiana Hoosiers, the Louisville Cardinals, or the Kentucky Wildcats. While it would’ve made getting merchandise much easier, choosing one of those teams would’ve meant that I would forever be hearing about how great the other respective teams are at any future family gatherings. I just don’t have the energy for that.
Sam continued to name other teams until he got to the Boston Celtics. For some reason that team just sounded right so I therefore declared that the Boston Celtics would be my team of choice. It was that year that they won the NBA championship which, of course, was because I decided to start rooting for their team that year.
I still love my Celtics and since I’ve been watching the NBA I’ve also become a big fan of the Orlando Magic and their star Dwight Howard. Dwight just seems like an all around nice guy and is also a great player. This year he got into the Guinness Book of World Records by making a shot sitting down at half court. How cool is that?
I’ve been so surprised at how much more entertaining the NBA is to watch compared to the college basketball I’m used to seeing. They also do really fun events, such as the All-Star Weekend they are having this weekend. The All-Star weekend has a rookie game, H.O.R.S.E., a slam dunk contest, and an all-star game as well. I’m rooting for the East team - full of my favorite players: Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, Paul Pierce… It’s going to be a good game!
